The Crested Butte Mountain Theatre was born in the summer of 1972 by an energetic, talented group of people who had the vision to see a remote community provide some of its own unique culture. Today, we continue that tradition with a historic downtown location in Crested Butte’s Old Town Hall, erected in 1883, and a newly designed theatre. Crested Butte Mountain Theatre is a vital part of Crested Butte’s rich culture and history, as well as the longest standing community theatre in the State of Colorado, performing over 275 productions over the past 47 years. Crested Butte Mountain Theatre’s mission is “to entertain, educate and enrich the Crested Butte community and greater Gunnison Valley by providing a well-balanced theatrical season of high artistic quality each year.”
CBMT stages 8-10 productions each year. These productions include full- length plays, musicals, one-act plays, children’s theatre productions, improv and ten-minute plays. CBMT not only serves the artistic needs of the community, but also provides education and a creative outlet for our youth ages 7-18 years through the Children’s Workshops. CBMT provides acting, directing, musical and design workshops throughout the year for local creatives.
